Friday, February 24, enjoy an evening of fine spirits, food, art, and music at the 16th Annual Mad About the Arts 2012. There will be a Friends of the Arts Preview Reception at 6:30 p.m. and the evening’s Main Event is from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. This event at the John J McDonough Museum of Art benefits two of Youngstown State University’s outstanding institutions: the McDonough Museum of Art and YSU SMARTS–Students Motivated by the Arts. The evening is always a tremendous success and is supported by the generosity of local sponsors and patrons.
Due to the overwhelming popularity of last year’s event, we are again featuring hors d’oeuvres from several area restaurants. Premier spirits and appetizers will be served at the Friends of the Arts Preview Reception from 6:30 pm-7:30 pm. This year for the preview reception only, will be Lemontinis from The Lemon Grove Cafe. Showcased in the early evening reception will be sultry ballads by local artist, Alexis Antes. The main event from 7:30-10:30 pm will feature the Second Avenue Project, a group of eight exhilarating players that will provide classic selections of Rhythm and Blues, Swing, Jazz and Top 40-everything to keep you dancing!
On display during this event will be the Biennial Faculty Exhibition. The show will feature selected works in various media by Studio Art Faculty from the Department of Art at Youngstown State University. The exhibition this year will feature works by Charmaine Banach, Stephen Chalmers and Rich Helfrich, recent additions to the Department of Art faculty.
Mad About the Arts benefits both the McDonough Museum of Art, Youngstown State University’s Center for Contemporary Art and YSU SMARTS–Students Motivated by the Arts. SMARTS a community art school, is a PK-16 partnership between Youngstown State University’s College of Fine and Performing Arts, the Beeghly College of Education, Youngstown City Schools, and the many vital arts organizations in our area.
